Torontonians are as deadlocked as their city council over the fate of the east Gardiner Expressway, suggests a poll conducted as councillors prepare to make the big decision.
The Forum Research survey of 822 randomly selected Torontonians, conducted Monday, found that 46 per cent per cent want councillors to vote for the so-called hybrid option, which maintains the elevated link to the Don Valley Parkway, and 42 per cent prefer replacing the east Gardiner with an at-grade boulevard.
Like much else in Toronto, support is largely split along urban-suburban lines, with the boulevard option most popular downtown and most suburban residents favouring ’s preferred planMayor John Tory (open John Tory's policard)’s preferred plan.
Citywide results of the interactive voice survey are considered accurate plus or minus three percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
Some 12 per cent said they did not have an opinion.
