Construction Updates

Overnight Work – Track Installation
Start Date: Thursday May 28, 2015 – beginning Thursday afternoon and continuing into Friday evening *pending site and weather conditions
Beginning Thursday May 28 (pending weather) TTC crews will be working overnight on track installation on Leslie Street between Eastern Avenue and Queen Street.
Overnight work will include the pulling of rail. Rail will be dragged to the work area from where it is stored on Leslie Street (between Eastern Avenue and Lake Shore Blvd). This will create noise that may be disruptive. Once the rail has been moved to the work zone the noise generated from this work will be reduced.
Why overnight work?
Track work is completed overnight across the city. There are several steps involved in installing tracks, beginning with the concrete base. TTC installs track on the base which is then followed by another layer of concrete. To prevent potential warping of the track, tie-in welds are done at night in advance of the second concrete pour. If this is not done in a timely manner the track can warp, resulting in TTC having to begin again. Unfortunately to preserve the integrity of the rail, overnight work is therefore required.
